Your Calendar Is Training Your Nervous System

Open your calendar.

Seriously.

Take a look.

Meetings.

Calls.

Deadlines.

Clients.

Networking.

Family logistics.

Doctor appointments.

Emails.

Now ask yourself one question.

If someone looked only at my calendar...

what would they conclude my nervous system is practicing every day?

Because here's what I've come to believe.

Your calendar doesn't just manage your time.

It trains your nervous system.

If every square says...

Produce.

Perform.

Respond.

Fix.

Solve.

Eventually your nervous system starts believing that's all life is.

So I stopped asking...

"What do I have to get done this week?"

Instead I started asking...

"What does my nervous system need this week?"

Sometimes the answer is capacity.

A ten-minute breath practice.

Meditation.

Yoga.

Silence.

Sometimes it's aliveness.

A sunrise hike.

Dancing.

A difficult conversation.

Time in nature.

Something that reminds me I'm more than what I produce.

I don't calendar activities anymore.

I calendar the states I want to practice.

Because the states I practice eventually become the person I live as.

Reflection

What one thing could you intentionally place on your calendar this week that won't increase your productivity...

but will increase your presence?
